Early Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that children receive an evaluation from an orthodontist by age seven.

By age 7, a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth have grown in and,  the orthodontist can properly diagnose potential tooth and jaw issues which can sometimes prevent the need for surgery.

Benefits of Early Treatment include:

  • Proactively guiding the growth of your child's jaw to help the permanent teeth come in straight
  • Ensuring proper width of the upper and lower arches
  • Creating additional space for crowded teeth
  • Avoiding potential permanent tooth extractions
  • Reversing effects of thumb sucking
  • Minor improvements of speech challenges

When to SEe an Orthodontist:

  • Teeth crowding in the front around age seven or eight
  • Jaws and teeth that are not proportionate to the rest of the face
  • Mouth breathing
  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Crowded, misplaced, or blocked teeth
  • Gaps or space between teeth
  • A hard time chewing or biting food
  • Finger or thumb sucking
  • Jaws that pop or make sounds while opening and closing
  • Jaws and teeth that are not proportionate to the rest of the face
